The SEACTIV Complex: Protection that Comes from the Sea

SEACTIV takes its origin in the sea, where seaweeds have developed coping strategies that allow them to tolerate extreme stress conditions.

The brown seaweeds used are harvested in the north of the Brittany coast, in France. With one of the largest tidal ranges in the world, seaweeds from this region face huge environmental “swings”, which create stressful conditions that constantly change and force algae to adapt.

The selected brown seaweed extracts from SEACTIV will limit the growth breaks caused by abiotic stress events. It prepares the plant for increased metabolic activity that will help overcome stress damage by:

Maintaining cell osmotic pressure;
Supporting photosynthesis for getting more energy for resisting or restarting;

The osmoprotectant effect of SEACTIV on the cell plants

In the case of hydric stress, the cell loses its water because of the osmotic difference between the soil solution and plants.

SEACTIV is a powerful osmoprotectant. By increasing the charge of the cell with osmolytes, SEACTIV decreases the water losses that naturally occur in the case of hydric stress.

The effect of SEACTIV on photosynthesis

SEACTIV enables photosynthetic activity to go on, despite tough environmental conditions. As a consequence of an improved metabolism, photosynthesis keeps on working, even in the case of hydric stress.

ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) are chemical species that are produced by cells in case of stress. They include free radicals, peroxides, and oxygen ions. A lower concentration of ROS within the plant from an application of SEACTIV indicates a less stressed plant.
