Discover Calcimer®, our Premier Ingredient
For decades, if not centuries, the farmers of Brittany, on France’s northwest coast, have used marine calcium to amend their land. They profited from the movement of the local impressive tides to manually harvest seaweeds and limestones to use on their land.
The tides are particularly famous in the bays of Saint-Malo and nearby Mont-Saint-Michel, where the difference between high and low tide can reach a height of more than 45 feet. Twice a day, the coastline is transformed, showing the force of nature, with landscapes in perpetual change. It’s a unique phenomenon!
Roullier Group’s Birthplace
The Roullier Group was born on the quays of Saint-Malo in 1959, when its founder, Daniel Roullier, acquired a warehouse of calcareous algae for soil improvement, which he knew had the potential to be transformed into agricultural soil enrichment products. The soil enrichment solution he developed from the maerl (later a mix of maerl and phosphate) was sold by Timac and quickly became a success.
Calcimer®
Timac Agro’s premier ingredient, Calcimer®, is the core ingredient of our soil conditioners and some of our fertilizers. This soluble, porous form of marine-based calcium carbonate is scientifically proven to have beneficial effects on soil micro-pH, structure, nutrient availability, microbial activity and root hair growth. It increases calcium solubility, improves soil aggregation and structure, and promotes microbial mineralization.
These proven results are examples of the many success stories developed during our 60 years of innovation and focus on research and development, which is the foundation of Timac Agro. The microscopic images below will illustrate the value of our patented product:
A large part of our current and upcoming innovation is based on our capacity to extract the right molecule from seaweeds and also from humic and fulvic acids.
We Harvest our Own Raw Ingredient
The Armorican Navigation Company (CAN) is the maritime subsidiary of the Roullier Group, the only French player to produce agricultural amendments from sea sand.
An activity present in the Roullier Group since its creation in 1959, the CAN has 3 mining titles to extract marine calcium off the northern coast of Brittany (France). The company employs 12 sailors divided into 2 teams, working 7 days a week all year round, while operating 1 ship, the Côtes de Bretagne.
